Global Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) Market Overview

Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) is a Methacrylic Acid Ester. It is polymerized in the presence of organic peroxide catalyst to form Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) resin, which has excellent transparency, strength, and outdoor durability.

Methyl Methacrylate Monomer is manufactured through C 4 process where in Isobutylene is oxidized. This process does not use any toxic raw material.

The Global Methyl Methacrylate market volume was valued at US$ 10.6 billion in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ 11.97 billion by 2023, at a CAGR of 2.9% during the forecast period. North East Asia and China are the major MMA producing as well as consuming regions followed by North America and South East Asia.

MMA is produced on a large scale for the production of Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA). The other large MMA consuming sector is paint and surface coatings. Methyl Methacrylate is also used in textile auxiliaries, lubricants and PVC modifiers.

PMMA market is growing at CAGR of 3.5% while demand of paints and coating is expected to increase at CAGR a 6%. Northeast Asia and China are the major exporting as well as importing regions.

Major manufacturers of MMA are Dow Chemicals, Evonik, Lucite International, Mitsubishi Chamicals, Saudi Methacrylates, Arkema, Jilin Petrochemical, Asahi Kasei, Heilongjiang Longxin Chemical, Kaohsiung, Monomer, Huizhou MMA etc.
